Parents, Catechists, & ParishionersDear St. Joseph’s Religious Education Parents: The Catholic Church believes the parents are the first teachers of their Catholic faith to their child. St. Joseph’s is grateful for the time you, the parents, have given either at home and/or here at Church in teaching your child about our faith. This year the classes will begin on September 18, 19, and 20 and will be completed on May 20, 21, and 22.. First Reconciliation Service for second graders and their families is scheduled for Wednesday, March 14th at 5:30pm in the church. First Communion Masses will be held on Saturday, May 19, at 2pm and Sunday, May 20, at 11am and 2pm. As a parent you model behavior that you would like your child to incorporate into his daily life now and as an adult. Attending Mass once a week is something we Catholics are encouraged and should want to do; as you know Fr. Roy’s homilies are short and to the point. Fr. Roy will celebrate a children’s mass on Sunday October 23 at 9am and February 5 at 11am. The Religious Education families will host the hospitality after the 9 and 11am masses on these dates. Fr. Roy has scheduled a teaching on Tuesday, November 15 , explaining the changes to the Mass at 7pm. Another support for your child is to pray, individually or as a family. The Sign of the Cross, Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be, Apostles’ Creed, and the Act of Contrition are prayers that all Catholics say. On Wednesday October 12 from 6:30pm to 8:30pm, St. Joseph’s is providing an opportunity to attend a parent retreat in the Parish Hall. Stephen Valgos will speak on “Recognizing The Gifts of the Holy Spirit in Your Children.” At least one parent from the family is encouraged to attend the retreat and both parents are, of course, welcome to attend.
This fall Religious Ed will be hosting two new social activities for families. Kids Movie Night on the fourth Friday of each month begins August 26 , 7-9pm in the Parish Hall, with The Princess Bride. Children ages 8 and up and may be dropped off for the movie after parents complete the Diocesan Waiver form (also available on the web site). Family Potlucks will begin on October 7 at 6- 8pm in the Parish Hall and continue on the first Friday through December.
We are still in need of teachers; if you are available and would like to help with this ministry, please contact the RE Office at 455- 8720 to have your questions answered and to obtain the necessary paperwork for Diocesan clearance.
We look forward to having your child/children in the Religious Education classes beginning on September 18th. The RE Calendar will soon be available on our web site, www.stjchurch.org\Education, Continue to watch the weekly Church Bulletin for additional information for Religious Education activities.
