Involvement with Divine WorshipAltar ServersYoung parishioners who assist the celebrant during the liturgy. Environment/DecorationHelp plan and arrange visual symbols for
liturgical celebrations. Change colors and decorations throughout the year according to the liturgical
seasons. Those involved meet in the church whenever needed such as before Lent, Easter, Advent,
Christmas. Eucharistic MinistersAssist with distributing the Body
and Blood of Christ at Eucharistic celebrations and at communion services. Ministers assist in preparing the
altar vessels and Eucharistic elements before the liturgy. Ministers also may bring the
Eucharist to the sick. Training and enrichment opportunities are available. Homebound/SickProvides ministers who visit the sick, elderly and shut-ins of our parish. This most satisfying ministry brings the Eucharist and spends time for prayer to those in need. Respect LifeThe purpose of the Respect Life Ministry is to promote respect for life from the moment of conception until the moment of natural death. There are no set meeting times or meeting places. Retrouvaille (Reh-tro-vi): This ministry provides a “lifeline” for troubled marriages in our parish and the diocese. Usually, two weekends a year are set aside within the Monterey Diocese. Contact: 384-5001 or email monterey@retroca.com. Scripture StudyLearn more about your faith through study of the sacred scriptures. Fr. Jim, an acknowledged scripture scholar, conducts a class each Wednesday at 9:30 am and 7 pm in the parish hall. Contact: Donna or Tory , 455-2249. SeekAn interfaith scripture class for all those wanting study, enrichment, encouragement and kinship through sharing the Word. Both groups meet at Temple Beth El in Salinas on Wednesdays, one at 9:30 am and the other at 7:30 pm. Contact: Dr. Joann Branson, 375-8603. LectorsMembers of this ministry proclaim the word of God during the liturgies. They also lead the assembly in the Prayers of the Faithful. Training is available. Contact: Antonette Goroch, email: agoroch@stjchurch.org or 455-2249. LiturgY CouncilThis council meets, as needed, at 7 pm in the Parish Center. Members plan and coordinate liturgies for the liturgical seasons (Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter and Ordinary Time) as well as special celebrations (e.g. First Eucharist, Confirmation, etc.). Members should be willing to make a two-year commitment and have some knowledge of liturgy and/or a willingness to learn. MusicMusic helps foster a sense of spirituality and unity at the liturgical celebrations. The Parish Music Coordinator plans the music for the liturgies throughout the year and needs volunteer assistance for tasks such as assembling the songbooks. Cantors lead the assembly during the liturgies with the accompaniment of skilled musicians. The choir sings at various liturgies and practices Wednesdays at 7 pm in the church. Consider lending your voice to the parish choir. He who sings, prays twice. Contact: Beth Figenshow, 455-0377. RCIAThis ministry answers questions of those adults inquiring into the Catholic Faith. Those adults are then initiated into the church through baptism and/or confirmation. The group meets each Tuesday, 7:30-9:00 pm, in the parish hall, from September through Pentecost. Assist in seating, solicit volunteers to bring the gifts to the altar and take up the collection. Usher/Greeters adjust heating/ventilation, tidy up the church after the liturgy is completed, and lock up the church buildings after the Saturday and Sunday Evening Liturgies.
